Boondocking at Manns Harbor Access Area on Croatan Sound in North Carolina

Eric pulls into our
overnight parking
spot.

Eric and I  will boondock tonight, without electric, water, or sewer services at Manns Harbor Access Area.   We have about 40 gallons of water in our fresh water tank and plenty of room in our gray and black water tanks.  Our solar panels charge our house batteries that power the lights, television, microwave etc.  The refrigerator is powered by propane when we don't have an electrical connection. Along with a decently stocked refrigerator and pantry, Eric and I have everything we need for a comfortable overnight stay.

I thought that boats are

In 2005, condominiums were planned for the Manns Harbor Marina, adjacent to Croatan Sound.  People who make their living fishing relied on the marina, which was the only for access to the Sound and area fishing grounds.  Development of this area cripple the local fishing industry.

A local group, calling itself the Manns Harbor Partners, was able to secure funding from North Carolina in 2007 to create an access area to Croatan Sound for commercial and recreational uses.

The results are a very accessible boating access area for everyone to use.  The Grand Opening of the newly designed Manns Harbor Access Area was February 13, 2015.
